Japanese vase Hana, Mitsukoshi

  • SKU: 030101
Valuable Japanese artist's vase by Suigetsu Toen. He is one of the few ceramic artists and designers who have the honour of designing and producing state gifts in Japan for distinguished visitors. His ceramics are not only useful and beautiful to look at, many a collector has already secured a piece by Suigetsu. Suigetsu is one of Japan's best-known and most respected ceramic artists. The vase is made by hand and belongs to the premium design series Mitsukoshi. Unfortunately, these unusual pieces of jewellery are reserved for only a few lovers of Japanese ceramic art, as the production and artistic decoration of the beautiful Mitsukoshi products are too time-consuming. They are made from the famous, natural purple clay from Mie Prefecture.

Hiroshi Suigetsu is one of the great artists of traditional Japanese ceramic production. As the third master, he has led the ceramics association in Yokkaichi for many years, and his impressive career has been accompanied by many honours and awards. The products in the Mitsukoshi series are skilfully decorated by Suigetsu using a special sandblasting technique after they come out of the wood-fired, traditional ceramic kiln. The grandeur of the decoration and the different structures of the surface require a very high level of artistic skill, which even in Japan only a few ceramic artists possess. This marvellous vase truly deserves a special place in the home of connoisseurs.
