Hangiri are round rice containers made of wood. The rice is prepared in the hangiri. The freshly cooked rice is filled into the hangiri and - for sushi - seasoned with rice vinegar, salt and sugar. After that, it is left to cool. And this is the phase when the hangiri is so important. In a normal pot, the rice can quickly become mushy. In the hangiri, the seasoned rice retains a much better consistency for eating or making sushi afterwards. Shibata's very high-quality hangiri are not made of pine like their less expensive counterparts, but of delicately scented cedar. In addition to the typical fragrance, natural cedar wood also offers a naturally given antiseptic effect. The Shibata Hangiri have a two-piece lid, which is particularly convenient when the rice has to wait for a long time.

\"My gratitude goes to all those who have guided me on my path and accompanied me. I firmly believe that it is worthwhile for all of us to preserve and develop traditional Japanese arts and crafts. in 1980, a customer approached me at a sales fair. He explained to me his idea of having a traditional OHITSU made from which rice could be scooped more easily. The OHITSU should therefore be round and made of bent wood. It took three years and many discussions with experts in woodworking before I succeeded in fulfilling this wish and making OHITSU and HANGIRI using traditional techniques and the right wood. The Ministry of International Trade and Industry awarded my products with the Good Design Award. But much more important was the satisfaction of my customers, which fills me with happiness until today. It is with great joy that I look forward to the years ahead, which I will use to continue making beautiful, practical and very durable Magewappa products from natural materials and enriching the lives of my customers with them.\"

Care and Use

Since the product is made of untreated wood, please clean with water only. Then let it dry well at room temperature, please avoid direct sunlight and heating. Please follow the supplied instructions for use and care.
