For specific designs, I imagine the scene in which the product is to be used. If I find that this product is very useful for someone in their daily life, I know that my work is worthwhile."
Designer with a Good Sense of Aesthetics
Ikumi Ishizaki was born in the city of Kobe in Hyogo Prefecture. In 2003, Ikumi Ishizaki graduated from the Osaka College of Art, affiliated with Osaka University of Arts, and joined Sunward. In 2005, she participated in planning and product development for her own brand, her own company, and the introduction of brands from other companies at Idea Corporation. In 2012, she won the Memorial Competition.
In 2013, the company umu design was founded and received the Chairman of the Board Award from the Ishikawa Design Exhibition and Tourism Association. In 2016, Ikumi Ishizaki's creations were awarded at the Japanese Craft Exhibition with the following awards: Encouragement Award / milano salone / Ryo Yamazaki Award, Special Jury Member, Social Design Award / Good Design Award 2017 Establishment of umu design Co.
Not too much, not too little, colorful, diverse, harmonious, and high-quality
The designer Ikumi Ishizaki – umu design – studied the art of design at the University of Osaka. "Kiji-Rokuro-biki" is the name of the traditional processing technique used to craft wooden vessels in Yamanaka at Gato Mikio. Ikumi Ishizaki achieves both aesthetics and artwork with her creations, which impress with their practical as well as aesthetic aspects. Adorned with many details, the beautiful products impress with the material, craftsmanship, and the award-winning design. The products are manufactured by high-end lacquerware in Japan with a rich tradition. The surfaces are unusually soft and gentle, delicately textured, and resilient due to the wood's well-known flexibility.
