Shinobu Hashimoto
ARTISTS & CRAFTSMEN AT ORYOKI
"My goal is to create Japanese ceramics that suit our modern lifestyle!"
About the Freedom of Art
Born in 1969 in Tokyo, Shinobu Hashimoto's path initially led him to Hokkaido, as his parents opened a café there when he was 10 years old. As a young adult, when he left his parental home, he opened a bar in Susukino and enjoyed the freedom with motorcycles, rock music, and traveling.
In his absence, his parents founded a pottery studio without his knowledge, which attracted attention among his friends. Upon his return, he wanted to learn everything about the art of ceramics and exchanged ideas with other artists. Six months later, in 2003, Shinobu decided to close the bar to fully dedicate himself to the art of ceramics.
Experimental Surfaces
As you may notice, Shinobu has a keen eye for detail. His works are all created on the potter's wheel and refined with highly experimental techniques. One of these techniques involves using slip-coated clay instead of glaze to give the surface a special "visual effect." His works are exhibited all over the world, including in London, San Francisco, Tokyo, Beijing, and Vallejo (Spain).
We are thrilled by his work and are delighted to present his pieces at ORYOKI. Each of his works, whether pots or vessels, possesses a very individual aesthetic and presence. We hope you enjoy this aesthetic as much as we do.
