Matcha set consisting of a Matcha bowl made in the traditional city of Kyoto, Japan, a bamboo whisk, a bamboo spoon, and a Matcha whisk holder, Kusenaoshi.
The items come from Kyoto and Takayama, Japan. Our Japanese partners are renowned worldwide for their excellent quality and first-class design. The decorative ceramic Matcha bowl has a capacity of 480 ml. The bowl is handcrafted by ceramic artists in Kyoto using traditional, centuries-old production methods. Kyoto Yaki - Goods from Kyoto

Kyoto is the birthplace of many cultural achievements and developments of Japan. It is no exaggeration to say that Kyoto in particular was the starting point from where Japanese culture was carried out into the world. A strong focus in Kyoto has always been on cultural developments around cuisine. The tea ceremony and typical dishes accompanying it (kaiseki) have undergone the highest refinement in Kyoto. It is certainly not surprising that in the wake of these efforts, the ceramic arts, which play an important role in the ceremony, have also developed to the highest level.

The high standards of chefs, tea masters and aesthetically educated citizens of Kyoto have always been the incentive and benchmark for the artistic achievements of the fantastic craftsmen in Kyoto. Their creations enjoy world renown, regardless of whether it is the ceramic quality, the most delicate patterns or the most refined glazes. At the same time, the masters of ceramics with their sophisticated works were again the engines for the technical development of production in the traditional kilns, which had to do and have done their part to complete the works of ceramic artists. Kyoto Yaki, ware from Kyoto, became a brand of the most beautiful ceramics with an international reputation and a loyal following around the world.

Chikumeido Sabun, a manufactory with rich tradition

The manufactory in Takayama is now in its 24th generation. Kubon Sabun is the tea whisk master known worldwide in professional circles for many years. Numerous awards in Japan and some important international presentations of the traditional craft but especially the long family tradition are for Kubon Sabun the obligation and honor at the same time to cultivate the art of making Cha-sen and also to pass it on as an instructor. He himself is convinced that as long as Sado, the tea ceremony, is preserved in Japan, his craftsmanship will also be in demand. Therefore, he has made it an important goal to pass on his art to the next generation.

Notes only use and care

Ceramic products with relatively open surfaces exhibit water and breathing activities with food prepared in them. For example, they can absorb and release flavors. With prolonged use and careful care, ceramic products enhance flavor nuances of the food being tasted in them, such as tea. Before use, ceramic should be washed with warm water and left to stand for a while filled with warm water. Ceramics that have absorbed water are less susceptible to tea stains and other discolorations. After use, always wash with clean, warm water without detergent. Abrasive sponges, hard brushes or similar should not be used for cleaning. Ceramic products decorated and painted with gold, silver or colors should not be exposed to high heat (oven) and sudden temperature changes, as this may damage the colors. The colors may change due to oxidation, even peel off at high heat. If the colors darken, you can use special polish to refresh the colors. However, please avoid bleach at all costs.

Since its establishment in 1917, the company has promoted and exported Kiyomizu products worldwide. Teizaburo Nishikawa, the founder of the company, first showcased Kiyomizu products at the Brussels World Expo in 1958. Keitaro Nishikawa, Teizaburo's son and successor, steadily expanded the export business and diversified the product portfolio with a variety of traditional Japanese craft products. Now, the third generation, Kayoko, daughter of Keitaro, has taken over the management with the aim of continuing to offer Kiyomizu products as a representative brand of Kyoto, while staying true to tradition, to customers worldwide.
