Katazome is one of the most valuable and decorative colored papers ever. Even the deckle edge, a sign of authenticity, is of a decidedly exclusive character. The motif conversions are very expressive, which is achieved by the multi-stage printing with stencils (kata) and, in the case of multi-colored motifs, by means of screen printing. The basis, the kozu paper, is handmade for our motifs, and the printing is also done by hand using the traditional technique of kimono fabric making. Katazome is an impressive wrapping paper, but is also used for decoration and origami. Very popular it is also framed and used as room decorations. Katazome is one of the highest quality Japanese papers with a completely unique character from Kyoto. The basis is the handmade Kozupapier, which is printed with hand-cut stencils (Kata) and, for multi-colored motifs, by screen printing elaborately, in several passes. The printing process corresponds to the traditional kimono technique, giving the motifs a particularly impressive depth and vividness, as the color pigments penetrate exceptionally deep into the paper. Typical is the deckle edge on all 4 sides. The exclusivity of this very special paper is underlined by the fact that there is only one workshop left in Japan that prints the paper in this way. Katazome is mainly used as exquisite cover paper, for decoration purposes, as wrapping paper or for origami. Lovers also enjoy their favorite motifs as framed pictures.
