"Japan paper Chiyogami, flower calligraphy black and white"
Chiyogami is a particularly traditional representative of Japanese papermaking. The history of Chiyogami, \"paper of a thousand generations\", goes back to the Japanese Edo period (17th century). The basis is Kozu paper, made from the bark of the mulberry tree, with its long, strong and elastic fibers a very stable and high-quality paper. The impressive motifs are created by hand through elaborate and time-consuming screen printing. The patterns are based on Japanese kimono fabrics. Color layer for color layer is applied in each case with a new, precisely matched screen. A typical white border remains. Patience is required because the paper must dry after each printing pass. Chiyogami is traditionally used as a material for dolls, boxes or tea caddies. It is ideal as a cover paper, for decoration purposes, as origami paper and, to give loving gifts a special touch, as wrapping paper.
