The inspiration for the bulbous shape of Tohaku candles comes from a sturdy pine tree. At the same time it is a tribute to the painting \"The Pine Trees\" one of the most famous painters in Japan named Tohaku Hasegawa. The pine trees in his painting are from the landscape of Nanao City and were created from the memory of the beautiful nature from his childhood. The flame of the candle is the extension of the gentle lines of these trees, evoking a rustic simplicity.

The wax is purely vegetable derived from the fruit of the HAZE tree (sumac). A hand-woven wick made of washi paper, rush grass and silk fibers, provides a high and bright flame. By using natural vegetable waxes, Takazawa candles produce less soot when they go out and they release less unpleasant odors.

TAKAZAWA CANDLE manufactures traditional Japanese candles called \"WA-ROUSOKU\" which are made of natural waxes. They established their candle making business as early as 1892 in the city of Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.

Different types of waxes are used for the candles, which are obtained from vegetable raw materials: Fruits of the HAZE tree (sumac), rice bran, rapeseed flower oil and fruits of the Urushi tree. The natural energy stored in these plants is used when burning these candles, which makes them environmentally friendly. When extinguished, the candles release less soot and less unpleasant odor, thanks to the natural vegetable waxes.

The flame of TAKAZAWA candles is larger and brighter. This is due to the structure of the traditional wick, which is thicker in diameter than its Western counterpart. The wick is made from a combination of WASHI paper, rush grass and silk fibers, which also come from nature.
