About SHOYEIDO
Since our founding in the early 18th century, Shoyeido has worked to perfect the art of making Japanese incense (incense), also known as \"Koh\". Shoyeido offers a wide range of Japanese incense for many different uses: for praying in a religious setting, for special activities such as the tea ceremony, and to simply fill a room with fine fragrances for a casual occasion. Shoyeido produces incense in a wide variety of designs. Incense sticks, aromatic wood shavings, kneaded and pressed incense, as well as sachets. The employees at Shoyeido are enthusiastic about fine fragrances, but also about the traditions, the necessary craftsmanship in production and the careful selection of ingredients for the production of Japanese incense (incense) \"Koh\".
Gifts from nature
Natural ingredients such as agarwood, sandalwood, cinnamon, clove and star anise - to name just a few - are not native to Japan. Shoyeido works closely with many countries to collect these ingredients and protect the ecological integrity of all natural ingredients in the incense recipes. Shoyeido believes that it is not only our responsibility to cherish and protect these bountiful gifts of nature, but also to preserve the traditions of recipes and blends that have been passed down from generation to generation. Shoyeido products are made with the utmost care so that all customers can enjoy the highest quality incense.
Incense for spirit and atmosphere
It is widely believed that incense was brought to Japan over 1400 years ago along with Buddhism. Historically, Japanese incense was used on religious occasions and was highly valued. Incense was also often used in the rituals of samurai warriors. During the Edo period (1603-1867), incense became popular in all social classes, establishing itself as a tradition and becoming part of Japanese culture. Over the centuries, the Japanese lifestyle has changed several times, but the appreciation and pride for incense has remained throughout time. We are delighted to be able to convey the concept of \"living with fragrance\" to our customers.

Shoyeido
About 300 years ago (1705), Moriyoshi Rokuzaemon HATA, who led the district of Tanba-Sasayama in what is now Kyoto Prefecture, established a business called "SASAYA." Rokubei Moritsune HATA, representing the third generation of the Hata family involved in the production of incense, began integrating methods for making incense that he had learned during his work at the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. He applied the secret traditions of the court to blend incense that had previously been enjoyed exclusively by kings. Nearly three hundred years later, the Hata family continues the legacy of their innovative ancestors, offering a variety of unique, hand-blended incense. Today, Shoyeido is considered the highest quality and most natural incense in the world.
Today, there are several "Shoyeido shops" in Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, in the Ginza and Aoyama districts, as well as in Sapporo. The main stores, including Shoyeido's headquarters in Kyoto, offer the opportunity to experience incense ceremonies and other cultural activities throughout the year. Furthermore, Shoyeido is the main sponsor of an "Incense Competition" in Japan, where participants submit essays to express their experiences with various fragrances. Shoyeido not only produces high-quality incense but also advocates for the preservation of valuable traditions in the modern world.
