This modern design sushi set, named Arita Houen, is perfectly tailored for two. The set boasts a sushi serving platter, two sushi plates, two petite sauce bowls, two chopstick trays, and two pairs of finely-crafted cherry wood chopsticks.The designer of the Arita Houen dinnerware series is Motomi Kawakami. The internationally renowned and multi-award winning designer created an extraordinary addition with the Houen dinnerware series. The design is characterized by corners, edges and surfaces that combine to form a flowing shape of high lightness. The tableware series Houen is manufactured in Arita, the world-famous Japanese stronghold for fine porcelain and noble design by the Kihara manufactory. Kihara uses traditional manufacturing processes combined with modern techniques to produce beautiful products of the highest quality. The original Japanese chopsticks are fine cherry wood. It is genuine handmade, protected the chopsticks with natural Urushi varnish (tree resin). Natural, tasteless and food safe. The chopsticks are made by artisans of the Gato Mikio manufactory, one of the most famous manufacturers of high-end lacquerware in Japan with a rich tradition.

Arita porcelain is a generic term for porcelain produced in Arita-cho, Saga Prefecture. It is characterized by both its highest quality and its widely appreciated aesthetics. Arita porcelain is hard and resistant, as white porcelain is admired for its high transparency, which almost gives the feeling of translucency. At the beginning of the Edo era (1616), the raw material for Arita porcelain was first found in Arita.

For over 400 years, porcelain has been produced in the city of Arita in Saga Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. The Arita porcelain produced there is known for its high craftsmanship quality. Kihara today combines tradition with modernity, meaning traditional techniques are adopted and product development is adapted to modern life. Various techniques are used for the production of the very hard and durable Arita porcelain. Motifs are still popular and are sometimes interpreted in a modern way. From transfer paper methods to hand drawing, different techniques are used to enhance the porcelain.

Each item is a handcrafted masterpiece, representing the outstanding skills of the artisans. Slight variations from the illustration are possible. Through the artisanal craftsmanship, minor irregularities serve as evidence of authenticity and handwork and do not diminish the value. Acquiring these skills requires extensive training and many years of experience.
