The beautiful ceramic teapot invites you to fully enjoy the special character of fine teas. The Shiboridashi teapot is mostly used for the preparation of Gyokuro and higher quality Sencha. But of course you can prepare any green tea in it. It is made of genuine Kyoto pottery, which is known far beyond Japan for its high standards of quality and artistic design. To filter the tea, there are small grooves on the spout and filter holes in the lid. The Shiboridashi teapot is handmade by ceramic artists of a small manufactory in the traditional way.

Instructions for use and care

Ceramic products with relatively open surfaces have water and breathing activities with food prepared in them. For example, they can absorb and release flavors. With prolonged use and careful care, ceramic products enhance flavor nuances of the food being served in them, such as tea. Before use, ceramic should be washed with warm water and left to stand for a while filled with warm water. Ceramics that have absorbed water are less susceptible to tea stains and other discolorations. After use, always wash with clean, warm water without detergent. Abrasive sponges, hard brushes or similar should not be used for cleaning. Ceramic products decorated and painted with gold, silver or colors should not be exposed to high heat (oven) and sudden temperature changes, as this may damage the colors. The colors may change due to oxidation, even peel off at high heat. If the colors darken, you can use special polish to refresh the colors. However, please avoid bleach at all costs.

T. NISHIKAWA & Co., Inc. is headquartered in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. The Gojozaka district is famous for its numerous kilns and art studios producing Kiyomizu products. Since its establishment in 1917, the company has promoted and exported Kiyomizu products worldwide. Teizaburo Nishikawa, the founder of the company, first showcased Kiyomizu products at the Brussels World Expo in 1958. Keitaro Nishikawa, Teizaburo's son and successor, steadily expanded the export business and diversified the product portfolio with a variety of traditional Japanese craft products. Now, the third generation, Kayoko, daughter of Keitaro, has taken over the management with the aim of continuing to offer Kiyomizu products as a representative brand of Kyoto, while staying true to tradition, to customers worldwide.
