"Japanese plate Homura, black, 3 sizes"
Handmade Japanese ceramics are produced using traditional manufacturing methods, resulting in items of high quality that showcase exceptional hardness, resilience, and exquisite finishes. The storied quality awareness that spans generations of Japanese artisans forms the foundation for this tableware, which garners admiration worldwide. Often, these pieces are handmade, representing the culmination of a longstanding and artful tradition in Japanese ceramic production.
The Homura dinnerware series hails from Gifu province. Its traditional manufactory goes by the names Koubei Ceramics or Koubei-Gama. Koubei-Gama is a revered Japanese ceramics manufacturer known for upholding the Oribe ware tradition, whilst also embracing innovation. With a history spanning roughly two centuries, Ryotaro Kato, son of the 7th Koubei, currently stands as a key visionary and talent within the manufactory. In 1804, the workshop was established by the inaugural Koubei Kato. Not long after, Koubei ceramics became the endorsed producer of painted tableware for Edo Castle. The sixth Koubei Kato dedicated many years to unraveling the techniques behind ancient Persian ceramics and artifacts from the Shosoin (Japan's Imperial Treasury House). In recognition of his enduring commitment and significant discoveries, he was honored as a Living National Treasure in 1995. Presently, the seventh Koubei Kato, alongside his son Ryotaro Kato, steers Koubei-Gama. Collaborating with over 20 adept artisans, their goal is to craft superior Japanese ceramics characterized by elegant designs. Koubei-Gama boasts a two-star rating from the Michelin Green Guide Japan, out of a potential three.
Every item in the Homura series is a unique, handcrafted piece. Given the traditional production methods, slight variations or irregularities might be present, serving as marks of authenticity rather than imperfections.
