"Tea caddy Urushi Nuri, wood, black, 2 sizes"
tea cans Urushi Nuri
Tea should always be stored in a dark, cool place and in a closed container, so that it retains its flavor for a long time. Temperature fluctuations and humidity should be avoided as much as possible. Unflavored green tea basically loses much less flavor, so green tea has a much longer shelf life than flavored tea. So what material is the right choice for the tea caddy? Plastic, which evaporates, can strongly change the taste and can be quite unhealthy. The metal tea caddy is less harmful. However, metal, whether stainless steel or aluminum, is rather a \"cold\" material. And it cannot absorb and thus regulate moisture. For our feeling, metal is not a good choice, especially when it comes to storing high quality tea, and also does not fit the ceremony of tea drinking as perfectly as a natural, noble wood. That's why we offer you a selection of the most beautiful, handmade tea caddies made of high quality woods. Imported directly from Japan. Tea caddies in high quality design, made in traditional Yamanaka lacquerware.
Synthesis of tradition, quality and modernity
The tea caddies of Gato Mikio are typical products from Japan. They combine tradition, closeness to nature, a high level of design with perfect craftsmanship and fit perfectly with both modern and classic lifestyles. All Gato Miko products are handmade. The wood of these tea caddies comes from the Japanese zelkove, a species of elm tree that is very commonly used for high-quality furniture, decorative and utility items. Japanese zelkove, also called keyaki in Japan, is a mighty tree found in Japan, Korea, eastern China and Taiwan. The natural occurrence is relatively small, because of its valuable and very useful wood, zelkove is also actively cultivated by forestry. The natural Urushi lacquer used is applied very thinly in several layers to give the best effect to the finely carved surfaces and grain of the wood.
Real lacquerware, pure craftsmanship
In Gato Mikio's tea caddies, the caddy and lid are handcrafted to form a good seal while being easy to open. Optimal use is made of the wood's ability to regulate moisture and temperature to protect the contents. The tea caddies provide natural protection for the tea leaves and an amazing level of sealing. Especially the protection from moisture is particularly pronounced due to the material wood. The design is created by a traditional woodturning technique mastered exclusively in Yamanaka called Kasyokubiki. There are more than forty different patterns (hira-suji) of this wooden decoration. The tea caddies can be used to store green tea, black tea, China teas, herbal teas and also coffee beans.
All products are unique. Slight deviations from the picture are possible.

Gato Mikio
The company Gato Mikio was founded in 1908 in Yamanaka Onsen by Kaga as a wood workshop called Wareto. Yamanaka Onsen is located in Ishikawa Prefecture in western Japan, approximately at the same latitude as Tokyo.
For 450 years, Ishikawa Prefecture has been known for producing lacquerware (lacquerware, urushi), wooden products with elaborate lacquer coatings. The Gato Mikio workshop utilizes the advantages of traditional Yamanaka lacquerware production, where high-quality, selected woods are precisely shaped using a potter's wheel. In this way, Gato Miko has created exceptionally beautiful Japanese wooden tableware, which has been awarded numerous design prizes. With the same craftsmanship, specially designed tea caddies, bowls, and tablets for green tea are also produced from wood.
Craftsmanship perfection and stylish, modern design are the outstanding features of Gato Mikio's products. With unique, sophisticated design products, this workshop has earned an excellent reputation worldwide. Gato Mikio is one of the leading manufacturers of high-end lacquerware in Japan and is among the most renowned worldwide.
