The elegant Urushi Gurume bento box is made of zelkove and lacquered with Urushi, the natural tree resin lacquer, using a special technique. Just like our bread or snack boxes, bento boxes are used in Japan to store snacks for on the go, at the office or at school and to keep them fresh. In Japan, however, the treats are usually made from rice. The traditional Urushi lacquer of tsuchinao has been used for a very long time to repair cultural objects. Lacquerware with this lacquer is also used in school lunches, for example, because it is so resistant. The lacquer will change slightly over time, a fact that is appreciated in Japan as it is seen as the course of life.
