Plastic, which evaporates, can strongly change the taste and can be quite unhealthy. The metal tea caddy is less harmful. However, metal, whether stainless steel or aluminum, is rather a \"cold\" material. And it cannot absorb and thus regulate moisture. For our feeling, metal is not a good choice, especially when it comes to storing high quality tea, and also does not fit the ceremony of tea drinking as perfectly as a natural, noble wood. Synthesis of tradition, quality and modernity

Karmi tea caddies are typical products from Japan. They combine tradition, closeness to nature, a high level of design with perfect craftsmanship and fit perfectly with both modern and classic lifestyles. All Gato Miko products are handmade. The wood comes from the Japanese Betula Grosse, the ornamental cherry birch. This species of birch is very rare, valuable and grows almost exclusively in Japan. The varnish used is applied very thinly in several layers to give the best effect to the finely carved surfaces and the grain of the wood. The Karmi series (Karumi means lightness) is inspired by aspects of haiku, an ancient Japanese poetic art as masterfully practiced by Basho Matsuo, a famous master of haiku.

Real lacquerware, pure craftsmanship

In Gato Mikio's Karmi tea caddies, the caddy and lid are handcrafted to form a good seal while being easy to open. Optimal use is made of the wood's ability to regulate moisture and temperature to protect the contents. The tea caddies provide natural protection for the tea leaves and an amazing level of sealing. The protection from moisture is especially pronounced due to the wood material. The design, with its distinctive grooves, is created by a traditional turning technique mastered exclusively in Yamanaka called Kasyokubiki. There are more than forty different patterns (hira-suji) of this wooden decoration. Karmi series tea caddies can be used to store green tea, black tea, China teas, herbal teas and also coffee beans.

The company Gato Mikio was founded in 1908 in Yamanaka Onsen by Kaga as a wood workshop called Wareto. Yamanaka Onsen is located in Ishikawa Prefecture in western Japan, approximately at the same latitude as Tokyo.
